From the Headlines: Fort Monroe, Virginia Lottery

We'll look at the stories making headlines in Hampton Roads.  Closing the base at Fort Monroe has opened the doors to redevelopment of the historic site.  The board that governs Fort Monroe's future after the Army leaves in 2011 unanimously approved a reuse plan that calls for a mix of retail, residential and office space.  We'll talk about it today on HearSay.  And a college professor claims the Virginia Lottery sold  millions of defective scratch-off tickets.  He's filed a lawsuit for re-imbursement.  We'll hear from both sides of the
issue today.

Virginia Civil Rights Memorial
In a two day commemoration, on July 20th and 21st, the Virginia Civil Rights Memorial will be unveiled and dedicated on the grounds of the state Capitol in Richmond. The Memorial honors Robert Russa Moton High School student Barbara Johns and her classmates who walked out of their segregated Prince Edward County school in April of 1951. The efforts of these students, joined by community leaders and civil rights attorneys, along with similar efforts across the Commonwealth and the nation, brought attention to unequal conditions in schools across the country and their court case eventually combined with others to form the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case. Join us today as we talk with some of the people who helped to make the Memorial a reality.
