Tuesday, November 13
THE NEW FACE OF HATE
They have their sights squarely set on reaching the mainstream and are using every tool at their disposal to do so.  Using things like the Internet, and a growing music scene, they are reaching record numbers with their message.  They are "American Skinheads".  We'll talk about this fast growing and violent segment of the white power movement that is the focus of a National Geographic Channel documentary on today's HearSayGuests: Mike Sinclair - documentary filmmaker and president of M2 Pictures; Dr. Randy Blazak - Director, Hate Crime Research Network and Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology at Portland State University; Loretta Ross, national expert on human rights and founding member of SisterSong.
 
 

Wednesday, November 14
THE DROPOUT CRISIS
It's a school nickname no one wants.  A new study by researchers at Johns Hopkins University labeled 22 Virginia high schools as "dropout factories," including five in Norfolk, two in Portsmouth and two in Virginia Beach.  The report found less than 60 percent of freshmen in those schools between the school years examined made it to their senior year three years later.  We'll talk about what schools made the list and why and get local reaction on today's HearSay.

Segment A: DIABETES
Nearly 21 million children and adults in the US have diabetes, and nearly one-third of that group is unaware that they are diabetic. With our nation's collective waistband nearly constantly expanding the numbers of those at risk of developing diabetes is growing. We'll talk about battling diabetes on today's HearSay.
 
 
Segment B: ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Far more debilitating than the forgetfulness that we tend to associate with old age, Alzheimer's is a progressive and fatal brain disease. As the US population ages a cure is still at bay and many are feeling the impact of this disease, both as sufferers and caretakers. A SMALLER PAYDAY
Payday loan and check cashing stores located around military bases were charging annual interest rates of 300 percent, but a new federal law caps the rate at a maximum 36 percent for active-duty military and their families. We'll talk about payday lending reforms on today's HearSay.
