HOMELAND SECURITY GRANTS IN HAMPTON ROADS For the fourth year in a row, the Department of Homeland Security passed over Hampton Roads for the Urban Area Security Initiative grants in favor of communities such as Memphis, Tennessee and Santa Ana, California. Hampton Roads, with its ports, infrastructure and military institutions, should have been high on that list for grant money, say critics. Today on HearSay, Cathy talks with Joe Bouchard, Executive Director of Center for Homeland Security and Defense at Zel Technologies, and Ed Merkle, Director of Security at the Virginia Port Authority, about the grant decisions and Hampton Roads’ security needs.
