WHRO ANNOUNCES FM STATION PROGRAMMING CHANGES
WHRV 89.5FM adds three new shows to weekday lineup
WHRO 90.3FM increases classical music offerings

Norfolk:  WHRO public radio announced scheduling changes on both of its public radio stations, which incorporate old favorites with some of the freshest new programming on the FM dial.  These changes, to take effect on September 8th, will include three new programs on WHRV 89.5FM, public radio’s talk, news and public affairs station:

News and Notes with Ed Gordon is fast-paced, well-produced and critically-acclaimed – a perfect lead-in to HearSay with Cathy Lewis.  News and Notes, hosted by Emmy award winner Ed Gordon presents topics of particular interest to the African-American audience and of importance to the entire community.
Airs:  Every Monday through Friday from 11:00am til noon

Day to Day, hosted by NPR veterans Alex Chadwick and Madeleine Brand, is one of the fastest growing programs on public radio: a relatively new mid-day newsmagazine in the style of Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Writers from the online magazine Slate contribute.
Airs:  Every Monday through Friday from 1:00 to 2:00pm

On the Media is a sometimes light-hearted, sometimes hard-hitting new program that examines how the media report the news.  It’s hosted by NPR’s Brooke Gladstone and Bob Garfield.
Airs:  Every Saturday from noon til 1:00pm

Scheduling changes of note on WHRV 89.5FM include the following:

The Jefferson Hour, featuring Jefferson scholar Clay Jenkinson, moves to Saturday morning at 6:00a.m.

Bob Edwards Weekend is now heard on both weekend days, airing Saturdays and Sundays at 7:00 a.m.

Weekend Edition Sunday with Liane Hansen moves to the 8:00-10:00a.m. slot on Sunday morning.

The rebroadcast of A Prairie Home Companion switches time slots with Weekend Edition, moving to 10:00a.m. on Sundays.  The live broadcast of PHC remains in its 6:00p.m. Saturday slot.

The Splendid Table, with host Lynne Rosetto Kaspar, moves to 12 noon on Sundays.

This American Life, edgy stories presented by host Ira Glass, moves to Friday evenings at 7:00p.m.

Selected Shorts, readings of short stories from New York’s Symphony Space, returns to 89.5FM on Sunday evenings at 6:00p.m.

On fine arts public radio station WHRO 90.3FM, the program schedule has been refined, resulting in a refreshed sound.  Some changes of note:

Lane Dare moves to the mid-day shift, and is heard from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m.

Taylor Green reprises his Afternoon Delights program from 3:00 to 7:00p.m.

Performance Today moves into the 7:00 to 9:00p.m. slot on weeknights.

Raymond Jones presents Evening Classics from 9:00p.m. to midnight.

A complete program schedule for both stations can be found at www.whro.org.

Roger Duvall, WHRO’s new Director of Radio Services, said “I want to build upon the great reputation that WHRO and WHRV have already earned for themselves. The programs I’ve added to our schedule are strong ones that have proven their worth in markets all over the country.”
