ROGER DUVALL JOINS STAFF OF WHRO

Norfolk:  WHRO announced today that Roger Duvall will assume the position of Director of Radio Services, effective May 22nd.  Duvall comes to WHRO with a wealth of experience in public and commercial radio.  His last position was with WMRA/James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he served as Assistant General Manager for Programming and was responsible for daily operations, news and on-air fundraising.  He was Station Manager for Alabama Public Radio for 9 years, and prior to that served as Program Director and Assistant General Manager for University Radio Services/WUAL at the University of Alabama.
Duvall has been an on-air announcer for a variety of public and commercial radio stations, including WNGS, West Palm Beach, Florida; WBFD, Bedford, Pennsylvania, and WIUP public radio in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He is also an orchestral musician and has engineered on-site recordings for NPR’s Performance Today.
Duvall will oversee programming and the daily operation of WHRO’s two public radio stations:  classical music/fine arts station WHRO 90.3FM; and news/public affairs and music station WHRV 89.5FM.
He has a Master of Education degree in Communications/Media, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in music, with honors, both from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  He has served on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting CSG Review Panel; secretary for Southern Public Radio; and the Alabama State Council of the Arts Media Grant Review Board.  He is the recipient of the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasters Award:  1999 Best Use of Tape, and 1996 Best Coverage of a Planned Event.
“Public media faces great challenges and equally great opportunities,” said Duvall.  “I look forward to getting to know the area and creating great radio with my WHRO/WHRV colleagues.”
“Roger’s experience in so many areas of radio performance and broadcasting will be of tremendous benefit to WHRO, particularly as the transition to ‘high definition radio’ offers opportunities to expand and enlarge our radio services,” said Joseph Widoff, President & Chief Executive Officer of WHRO.
