Educational Services Sales Manager
Purpose:
WHRO is in the process of launching an Educational Services division to:
Monetize existing and future online course content it has developed through license or subscription to K-12 school divisions in Virginia and prospectively throughout the US;
Further develop its online educational content distribution platform, eMediaVa, in concert with the Virginia Public Media Association (VPMA), and market it to K-12 school divisions across the Commonwealth; and
Secure contracts with third party entities such as educational publishers, associations, defense contractors and others to produce online instructional and training content.
Position Description:
The Educational Services Sales Manager is responsible for representing WHRO’s educational products and services to:
K-12 School Divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Selected educational publishers, associations, organizations and contractors engaged in the creation and/or sale of online courseware, educational software & applications or training materials.
Additionally, the Educational Sales Manager will, over time, recruit, engage and manage a team of educational sales representatives with assigned regions across the Commonwealth and prospectively other regions of the US.
Responsibilities:
The Educational Sales Manager develops, manages, and guides sales activities for WHRO’s Educational Services division, working in concert with WHRO’s Education Officer, E-Learning Manager and VP Operations, to support the successful acquisition of new customers, maintain continued business with existing accounts and to provide liaison with customers in the use of WHRO’s educational products and services.
The Educational Sales Manager will be responsible for developing relationships in K-12 school divisions, state agencies, and the state department of education, and among other influential constituencies. He/she will work with WHRO’s marketing team in developing successful sales campaigns and will collaborate with other WHRO education and content resources in implementing campaigns. He/she will gather market and customer intelligence to inform marketing and development programs. The successful candidate will bring a strong customer focus and serve as product champion to external customers.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Ability to develop strategic plans that support company goals; ability to mentor and coach sales leadership and to supervise and motivate sales staff in implementing and expanding sales; advanced skills in opening sales territory and bringing new ideas for efficient marketing services and products
- Strong skills in sales in an educational business environment
- Knowledge of selling in to the education industry
- Ability to develop and deliver high-level sales discussions and presentations
- Ability to develop and present workshops and training sessions on the application of WHRO’s products to customers, e.g., institutions of higher education
- Serve as a liaison with customers, e.g., K-12 schools, state agencies and others
- Build positive, long-term relations with current and potential customers
- Meet and develop networks with key decision makers at all levels from relevant entities and organizations
- Participate in initiatives with influential organizations that impact policy and direction which may affect WHRO
- Develop in-depth understanding of the features, benefits, and support of WHRO’s products and services
- Develop in-depth understanding of the customer and markets served by WHRO
- Identify and qualify key decision makers in target organizations
- Develop systematic plans for conducting sales and training campaigns for current and potential customers
- Develop plans for the strategic use of people and other resources to support sales initiatives
- Report on key market trends and findings to assist the company in the development of marketing support and proposal development
Qualifications:
- Strong customer and account management skills at the divisional level
- Ability to present workshops and training to groups using technology
- Success conducting sales campaigns, using resources, and developing relationships with targeted decision makers
- Strong sales, project management, and decision making skills
- Prior experience in education, educational software and the K-12 education market preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to travel 50%-60%
- Bachelor's degree is required, MBA/advanced degree is preferred

WHRO INTERNSHIP PROGRAM- WHRO offers an internship program to juniors and seniors enrolled in a college or similar curriculum to which the internship applies. The purpose is to allow qualified and interested students an opportunity to gain practical experience in a career setting. These experiences can allow students to combine their educational pursuits with day-to-day operations of the communications and broadcasting industry. While some internships can be used for college credit, it is not mandatory.
Individuals may apply in the same way they would apply for a job. An internship application, resume and cover letter are required. The appropriate department head to determine eligibility for the internship will then interview the individuals.
We are currently accepting applications for Summer 2012 semester.

WHRO is offering internship positions with the award winning service Defenestration. It isn't a radio program, or a TV program, or even a podcast. It's a compilation of videos, audio recordings, paintings, poetry, sculpture, weaving - any creative endeavor that can be shared with visitors to our website will find a place on defenestration. In short, defenestration is an opportunity to share an artist's creativity with whro.org's many visitors – and a chance for the public to see and hear the different artistic perspectives of members of the community. It's a continuous 24/7 variety show…
Applicants should have a keen interest in local music and arts.
Our internships are unpaid; however, students can earn college credits based on approval of the college or university.
Goals
Local Music and Art Journalism Internship
Simply put research and write about local music and art.
Develop your own portfolio of published work while contributing to Defenestration. This is for individuals who wish to gain experience in the world of music journalism, and have their work published.
Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute by publishing their own original articles on the website contingent upon editorial review of all submissions and approval for publishing. In addition, if you choose to participate in our credited internship program, candidates will perform various functions such as research, fact checking, and basic editing duties.
Pre-requisites:
- Must love to write
- Must love music and art
- Must have style
- Must be able to keep your finger on the pulse of local music, artists, musical events, festivals, new releases, news, etc.
- Must be able to meet deadlines and submit on a predetermined schedule that you
- are comfortable with
- Reasonable computer skills
Research/Marketing
To research and gather information on Hampton Roads local artist to include, musicians, bands, painters, sculptors, comedians, photographers, poets, etc.
Populate a central database with names, contact info, biographies, photos, documents, digital copies of art, etc.
Contact the artists and ask for input to the Defenestration service and provide assistance as needed to include collecting material and posting it
Interview local artists via video and audio for inclusion on the media player and artist galleries.
Producer
Create shows using audio and video collected for inclusion in the online stream and artist galleries.
